David was born in the West Country and attended art school in Exeter, Falmouth and Birmingham where he gained his Higher Diploma in Art. He was a Fellow in Fine Art at Gloucestershire College of Art before taking up a post at Birmingham’s Ikon Gallery. Amongst the exhibitions he curated there was the first retrospective of work by Sean Scully. In a varied career David has worked for the Arts Council, been visiting lecturer to numerous art schools and spent ten years as Dean of Faculty of Art & Design at Derby University. He was Chair of the board of New Contemporaries student art competition for seven years overseeing the relaunch of it in the 1990’s. Exhibitions of his work have taken place both in the UK, most recently Lakeside Arts in Nottingham & New Court Repton, and across Europe including Portugal, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden, and the Far East in China, Korea and Japan. In recent years he curated the exhibition programmes at Harrington Mill, Long Eaton, Nottingham and several exhibitions at Deda in Derby. His work can be viewed at the Tarpey Gallery, Castle Donington.
